          Louis Ormont, Ph.D., C.GP, DFAGPA, has achieved national and international recognition as a master clinician, theoretician, and teacher who has trained hundreds of group psychotherapists in his almost half a century of practice. He is the Founder and Director of the Center for the Advancement of Group Studies, a training institute devoted exclusively to the emotional and intellectual training of group psychotherapists. He also serves as Clinical Professor of Psychology, Group Therapy Department, at Adelphi University, and is a Faculty Member in the Group Therapy Department, at the Manhattan Center for Advanced Psychoanalytic Studies.

          Dr. Ormont continues to be a vital force in the field through his ongoing teaching, lecturing, workshop presentation (including an annual presenter at AGPA) and flow of articles on significant aspects of group psychotherapy. Dr. Ormont has been a featured speaker at numerous medical schools, including those at Harvard, Emory and Temple Universities The author of more than 30 pa pers and author or co-author of several books, his recent papers have dealth with the management of aggression, the use of the group to facilitate maturational change, and the development of emotional insulation. His book The Group Psychotherapy Experience is in its fourth printing. He has served on the Editorial Board of Modern Psychoanalysis since 1980.

          The American Psychological Association, Division 49 named him Group Psychologist of the Year in 1998. Dr. Ormont is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association. In addition, he has received the Golden Plaque for Outstanding Contributions to Psychoanalysis from the Philadelphia School of Psychoanalysis. Dr. Ormont's private clinical practice has been devoted exclusively to group therapy since 1960.
